Here are some smart styles we designed onto wearables and functional items for you to use (phone cases), for your home, for your pets and for gifts you can give others. We hope these products have some of the essence of what makes Chicago sweet by highlighting a neighborhood with deep character, energy and colorful, visual urban beauty.
In this collection we focus on Chicago's lower west side : the streets between Canal and Western, 16th and 25th. This is Pilsen, Heart Of Chicago and Heart Of Italy's terf. We ended up using a local Realtor's wide library of visuals -- from years of walking, driving and working the neighborhood and being seduced by it.. After 25 years of being a Realtor in Pilsen "MyRealtorPhil" and helping over 300 families buy or sell homes he, fell in love with the place and the people and the streetscapes of Pilsen.
These products were carefully designed with photos he took, and with some designs he started with his heartfelt inspiration.
Our design team carefully wove his photos and appreciation into each design. The streets, buildings, sights and shadows of Pilsen offer themselves to you as you desire to capture them. We hope our choices grabbed and designed at least some of what makes it special in a way you can wear it, have it on a functional item or in your home. Several products HAVE A QR CODE THAT LAUNCHES A SHORT VIDEO to show the original art in the design and location.
What is Pilsen? Pilsen is a part of the "Lower West Side" Of Chicago.
It is easily considered the Mural capital of Chicago and it hosts a large Museum NMMA which is the largest Latino cultural institution in America. The mile around the museum is home to hundreds of working artists let alone some of the best dining in Chicago and was named as “One of The World’s 12 Coolest Neighborhoods In The World” by Forbes magazine a few years ago.
The Lower West Side with the other communities that orbit Pilsen offer restaurants, festivals, and vibrancy and give off an international flair, but it's streets are loaded with murals, galleries, cafe's and more murals. The murals in Pilsen often serve as a form of community expression and storytelling, reflecting the neighborhood's history but also of it's vibrance, struggle, love and family.
The buildings of Pilsen's area themselves tell of other, older stories of European settlers who came there and bonded in a diverse and thick ring of networks from several parts of Europe throughout the community. For example, Thalia Hall, featured in the logo, was built in 1892 as a hall for meetings and for theatrical productions and modeled after that of the Old Opera House in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where many of the residents of the surrounding East Pilsen neighborhood had emigrated from at that time.
The buildings around 24th and Oakley give off smells and memories of the City's original "Little Italy." The community centered on 24th and Oakley called the "Heart of Italy" or "Little Tuscany" was composed mostly of Northern Italian immigrants for decades. While "Taylor Street" a mile Northeast now goes by the popular "Little Italy" moniker, that designation once belonged to this stretch of decades-old ristoranti on the 2400 block of South Oakley, an area now known as Heart of Italy.
